How long does a new e-passport take to process?

Once your biometrics are captured, an ordinary e-passport typically takes 7-10 working days to be ready for collection.

Do I need an appointment to apply for a passport?

Yes, an appointment is mandatory whether you are applying from within Zimbabwe or from a consulate in another country. You must book online first.

Can I take my own photo for an ID card?

No, there is no allowance for individuals taking their own photos. You must attend the registrar's office for your biometrics (photo and fingerprints) to be carried out by officials.

What is a Private Business Corporation (PBC)?

A PBC is a simple type of registered company designed for small businesses. It offers limited liability, which means your personal assets are protected from business debts. It's easier and cheaper to set up than a traditional Private Limited Company.

What is the minimum age to get a driver's license in Zimbabwe?

You must be at least 16 years old to apply for a Class 4 (light motor vehicle) or Class 3 (motorcycle) license. For a Class 2 (heavy vehicle) license, the minimum age is 25.

Do I need a police clearance to sell my car?

Yes, the seller is legally required to obtain a Vehicle Police Clearance certificate from the ZRP Vehicle Theft Squad before the ownership can be transferred.

What is a Defensive Driving Certificate (DDC)?

A DDC is a certificate you get after completing a course with the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ). It is a mandatory prerequisite before you can apply for a Class 2 (heavy vehicle) license.

What is a Title Deed?

A Title Deed is the legal document that serves as the ultimate proof of ownership for a piece of land or property. It is registered at the Deeds Office.

Do I need a permit to drill a borehole?

Yes, you must obtain a drilling permit from the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) *before* you start drilling. It is illegal to drill without one.

What is the difference between buying a "stand" and buying a house?

Buying a stand means you are purchasing an empty piece of residential land. Buying a house means you are purchasing the land and the existing building on it. The legal process for transferring ownership is similar for both.

What is "cession" and is it safe?

"Cession" is a process where someone sells you their "rights" to a property that does not yet have Title Deeds, often because it's part of a new development. It is extremely risky because you have no legal proof of ownership. It is always much safer to buy a property that has a registered Title Deed.

What is the difference between a ZWL and a Nostro account?

A ZWL account is for transacting in local Zimbabwean Dollars. A Nostro FCA (Foreign Currency Account) is for holding and transacting in foreign currency, usually US Dollars. It is essential for receiving money from overseas.

Can I use my ZWL bank card for online shopping on international sites?

No, local ZWL debit cards are generally not enabled for international payments on sites like Amazon. For international online shopping, you will need a Visa or Mastercard linked to a Nostro FCA (foreign currency) account.
